The
Interact VIP Party This party is for the Very Interactive People Only and it is one of a kind Interact party in which it is a fellowship cum motivation get-together for Interact Committee members. It is going to be held on Saturday, 3 April 2010 at HD Studio (also known as Happy Dancers) at 7:30pm sharp. The programme includes free entertainment by HD Dance Troupe, quizzes and contests. Prizes are presented to the Best Collaboration, Best Poser, Burger King and Hot Dog Queen. This action-filled Party is a must.
This term each Interact club is challenged to come up with their own worthy community projects which are to be implemented and completed by the end of March 2010. Each club is to present a written report to the RCS of no fewer than 5 pages and have their activities recorded and uploaded on Youtube. This is not the first time Sandakan Interacts are broadcast online. Many of their previous activities like RYLA and Installations are published on Facebook (Sandakan Interacts) and Youtube (Sandakan RYLA). However, this is the first time that the clubs will be uploading their hands-on activities for the online community to view. Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) in Miri This year's RYLA is held in Miri and RCS is planning to send at least 8 Interacts to participate. The 3 nights and 4 days camp is going to be held in June during the school holidays and it is held at Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort in Miri. The registration fee is RM350 per person. Past Files TAWAU RYLA CAMP 2007-2008 Departure 15 Interacts took off to the 2007-2008 RYLA in Tawau on the 6th June 2008. They were sponsored by both the Rotary Club of Sandakan and the Rotary Club of Sandakan North. Everyone woke up early and was already at mile 2 1/2 Sandakan Bus Station at 6.30am. The students and Rotarians were sleepy but excited. The Interacts were excited about going to Tawau and the Rotarians were excited to have breakfast once the bus departs. All the youths were given tit bits for their 5 1/2 hour journey. They departed at 7am and arrived at the Tawau Resort at 12.30pm. At the Camp Registrations and accommodation arrangements were confusing the participants immediately upon their arrival, but these didn’t stop them from getting to know other Interacts from the other clubs in Sabah. The Organizers taught them time management, leadership and character shaping. The talks were fun, informational and refreshing. The participants had a great time sharing experiences, and with such great hospitality offered by the Rotary Club of Tawau and the Interact clubs in Tawau, the RYLA camp there was one of the best our Interacts had ever participated. The Rotary club of Sandakan and Sandakan North are grateful to the Rotary Club of Tawau for the hospitality extended to our Interacts.

Journey Home Departing was such sweet sorrow. The friendship bond developed among all the Interacts were strong even though they only got to spend 2 nights and 3 days at the camp together. Phone numbers and emails were exchanged and the trip home was not short of frequent SMS between the hosts and their guests from Sandakan. The Sandakan contingent left Tawau at 3pm and arrived at the Sandakan Bus Station at 8pm. The Interacts were extremely tired but the trip was worth it. One month in India changes the lives of three Sandakan students Sandakan: As part of the Rotary International Exchange program, three Sandakan Interacts left for India in November 2007 to experience life in North India. While there, they were our Rotary ambassadors representing District 3310. They went with many assumptions and ideas of India that they derived from images presented in the news and the Discovery Channel. One can assume how nervous they were. Fortunately, the assumptions were all far from the truth. They were greeted at the airport by their host parents who were more than happy to receive them. Often accompanied by maid and butlers, they stayed in villas and were treated like Indian princesses.

Even though India is part of Asia, the one month visit was a totally different cultural experience. They were fortunate to experience the life of being among the extreme poor who ate for free at temples. They sat on the floor with them – ate and drank hand scooped meals and water with them, and their meal times were never short of rodents scurrying about freely. They were not used to such generous alms, but they were not given a choice to refuse. It was a custom to finish what is served. They were taught to love nature and appreciate all living organisms. Killing a mosquito was a taboo, and unfortunately, one of the three realized the custom embarrassingly. Cattles and vehicles with funny musical horns filled the roads. Despite the mixed crowds, road accidents were rare. The students went to many places and events and tasted various spicy foods in which two out of the three had food poisoning and survived. During their stay, they also had the opportunity of meeting other Youth exchange students from U.S.A, Brazil and Mexico. The long term exchange students were already fluent in the local dialects. There were more than twenty long-term foreign exchange students. Part of their assignment as representatives of District 3310 was to introduce and promote the District especially Sabah. Within the month, they to visited more than ten Rotary Clubs in India and presented visual talks on Sabah – its history, geography, people and culture. They generously presented their Indian friends and officials with Sabah Teas and souvenirs depicting Orang Hutans and Mount Kinabalu. In fact their manners were so well liked that the three students were offered an all expense paid tour around India. Their visit to India came to an end in December 2007 but the values and experiences that they had made them into disciplined independent young ladies who did not only make their parents proud, but the Rotary Club of Sandakan too.
